I was seriously underwhelmed by the first Assassins Creed. It was hyped up to be this genre defining experience when in reality it was very repetitive and tedious. They had a lot of good ideas but they just didn't come together to create the masterpiece I was expecting.
I decided to give Assassin's Creed II a try as it has been getting top notch reviews. Well it certainly is much better than the first one in my humble opinion and this time around we have a much more interesting protagonist in Ezio. The environments and graphics are fantastic with Italian cities as beautiful as you could imagine aside from actually being there. The repetitive missions from the last game have been revamped and plenty of variety added. More weapons and assassination techniques integrated.
Okay, now there is one huge problem I have with the game. The difficulty. It is way too easy and there aren't different difficulty levels to switch between. I got almost halfway through the game before dying. There's no sense of urgency or tension because your quite literally a one man army. I felt no need to outwit the guards or strategize ahead of time because I could take on half an army and come out relatively unscathed.
So technically most of this game is top notch, but to be completely honest the horrifically easy difficutly level killed a lot of the fun for me. I'm sure a lot of people won't have a huge problem with that, but challenge is what makes video games the most fun in my eyes.
