So I ventured into Wal Mart around 11:55 Monday night. Five minutes shy of the official Modern Warfare 2 release date. The place was largely empty, at least I thought, until I made my way to the electronics department. Tonight it was more like a Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 kiosk. Around forty people all in line waiting to get there hands on a copy of the game. Probably should have seen that coming. I hear it has already outsold Halo 3 as well as Grand Theft Auto 4. Now those are things to brag about.
I was a little worried I might not get a copy. Then I thought to myself, "this is Wal Mart we're talking about here". They probably have enough copies for each man, woman, and child within a 20 mile radius. So yeah I got my game. I only had to stand in line for forty five minutes! I did that with pleasure and a big smile on my face.
I'm going to keep this review short and sweet for all you. Buy It, buy it now. Don't even finish reading this.
Well if you're still here and you don't have the game, shame on you. But seriously this is just what everybody was expecting from the sequel to Modern Warfare. You'll feel right at home with this one. The formula is similar to Call of Duty 4. They kept the same basic tried and true shell as the last game, took care of some of the flaws and added a bunch of new features. You have a campaign mode as exciting as any Hollywood action blockbusters and twice as fun. You also have a new co-op mode, a bunch of new guns and slew of new mulitplayer features that land this well into must buy territory.
Big name game franchises can get by on name only, regardless of how much much they improve or stumble from their predecessor's quality. Just look at Madden. I feel like they have been releasing what is essentially the same game for years now, but people still eat that up. But don't be alarmed folks. Modern Warfare 2 is the real deal. It's a true sequel and not just a lazy rehash or "Modern Warfare 1.5". Don't rent...buy!
