Father killed partner who became hooked on Sony PlayStation

Original Story

A tragic story no doubt, but the portrayal of it is infuriating. Another anti violent gaming crusader looking to point the finger at games and away from the individual responsible. They stop short of saying the Grand Theft Auto was a contributing factor, but let's be serious here, why would they even mention the name of the game unless they wanted the readers to see a correlation, no matter how small.

Citing its effects on impressionable youth is one thing, but what they're trying to do here is just asinine. Here they're trying to indirectly attribute a grown adult's actions to this game. And again the writer doesn't say this outright, but I feel like it's implied.

I love how the writer nonchalantly slips in the fact that the man also believed his wife was having an affair. Somehow this became a footnote in the story. The gaming should have been the footnote. We are led to believe that the womans gaming was the catalyst to her husbands violent crime and not the notion that she was CHEATING ON HIM. Give me a freakin' break.

And on an unrelated note in the story it states that the child would play on "the computer" until midnight at which point she would take over. I assume they mean the Playstation, but the Playstation is not a computer, it's a gaming console. And if they are actually talking about a computer, what would the fact that the son is on a computer until midnight have to do with the mother's gaming habits.

This story just really makes me mad. I feel like they glossed over the real causes of the crime in order to put gaming in the cross hairs.
