Stepping in My Time Machine: A Video Game Timeline

There are a lot of games I've never played before. I never had a video game system when I was a kid, and as a result sometimes, "new" to me is almost as old as me. Recently I was turned onto the Phantasy Star series. Under the advisement of my video game counselor (i.e my boyfriend) I started playing the series from the beginning. That's right, The original Phantasy Star was released in the U.S in 1988. I'm at 8bit Sega Station playing on the old dust covered Master System.

It's pretty cool to regress into a game this way. I've done it before with Paper Mario RPG, and it's always a kick to transition to the newer versions of the game. It feels like going through a time warp.

So far I dig the game. I like the way they've done the dungeons. The fact that there is no map to accompany the game is kind of rad. You really have to be systematized about how you go through the space. It's easy to get lost. I also love that the main character is a girl.

Have you heard of the Angry Video Game Nerd. The guy started out as a user on youtube, he would basically post reviews of old, mostly horrible Nintendo games. The guy swears like a sailor, but he's hilarious. Now the guys like a video game icon.
