Most Bang for Your Buck

Many people believe that $60 bucks is a steep price tag for a game, but is it really. I mean in some cases I would say yes, but in many other instances I would actually be inclined to say that I would pay more if I had to, not that I can really afford it.

In my experience I would say on average a game's campaign mode lasts roughly 10 hours, not factoring in multiplayer. This means your paying a little over 5 dollars an hour for the initial play through. That may seem a tad pricey, but it doesn't even factor in subsequent play throughs or online modes. I have invested hundreds of hours into good online multiplayer games. Games with good online modes have almost infinite re-playability.

On the other hand if I'm paying 60 dollars for a game without online multiplayer capabilities and only a ten hour single player campaign mode then I would probably feel cheated considering I could get everything I wanted out of it over the course of a rental period.

I always do the research before I buy a game. I check out the reviews, talk to people on forums, and check out how much content I'm getting when I purchase a game. I rarely, if ever buy a game before doing my homework. You wouldn't go out and buy a car or computer just because it looks nice, so why would you do it for a game. Don't judge a book by its cover definitely applies to games. If I had a nickel for every time a cool concept was ruined by a crappy game, lets just say I wouldn't have to worry about a $60 dollar price tag.

If you think about it, the cost of a video game hasn't really changed that much over the years, even in the 80's a game cartridge cost about $50 dollars. Considering the rate of inflation on most other items, I'm surprised at how stable the cost of games has been.

It's also great when you have two people sharing the games. A Saturday night trip to the movies for two would easily cost around $50-$60 after you buy the tickets, and snacks. If you factor in a dinner before hand then you're way over the $60 line.

A 10 hour 2 player video game - would occupy 2 weekends of fun no problem. It's an easy decision to make when you think of it that way.
