Gears of War 2 picks up 6 months after the original Gears of War as we follow Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad as they try again to once and for all squash the locust invasion. The Gears coalition has decided to take the fight to the underground lair of the locusts and destroy them from within. The locusts have their own plans, and are attempting to sink the few remaining human cities of Sera.
The campaign mode in the new game is phenomenal and an improvement over the original in just about every way. It takes the entire mythology of the gears universe and expands upon it and implements it into the gameplay in just about every way possible. This time around you find yourself fighting reavers on foot, battling hulking brumaks, and hell now you even get to ride them in a few levels. Before releasing the sequel the crew over at Epic Games stated that with Gears 2 they wanted the new game to be bigger, better, and more badass. This absolutely sums up my sentiments. The original set up a lot of the elements, and in this installment everything had a chance to let lose. The story line itself is solid, but in the long run left way to many lose ends in my opinion. Obviously they wanted to leave people craving another sequel, but god knows how long we're gonna have to wait for that. We got a lot more questions than answers.
The multiplayer takes the basic foundation laid down by its predecessor and spices it up in just about every conceivable way. The original game had 3 original multiplayer modes, now we have 7. The first game was 4 vs 4, now its 5 vs 5. On top of this you have new levels, news guns, new executions and a myriad of other new features. On the surface Gears 2 appears to be somewhat similar to the original, however, once you get to experience all of the new teaks and changes then you really get a sense of what a much more refined experience the game is this time around.
So if you loved Gears then you will absolutely love Gears 2. It's more of what you love with plenty to keep the experience fresh.
