Call of Duty 4

My boyfriend just bought Call of Duty 4 (COD4) for our xbox 360. It's a first person military shooter. All of his friends at work play the PC version, and my brother and cousin play on their 360's. He thought it would be fun to get a copy and play on line with them. I really like the idea of him hanging with my brother and cousin in the internet world, so I was excited to hear that he bought it.

I came home the other night, and saw him playing... Now let me preface this by saying I like video games, and I don't even have a big problem with a little in game violence, imaginary violence that is. You know the kind where your using magic to overcome your enemies. I don't even think Grand Theft Auto 4 is too bad. It's fairly unrealistic with the way it handles gun fire in that game. You "die" and come back walking out of an emergency room. Not too mention the dialogue is silly and fake enough you could never mistake it for reality. Sometimes I'll play and go crashing around like a malevolent delinquent just cause it's funny.

COD4 is unlike anything I have ever seen before. I was genuinely upset watching it. It has very realistic war depictions in it, and I can't shake the idea that there are people out there who actually live in circumstances where there really is bombing going on like there is in the game.

For me this game falls under the category of too real. I had to ask my boyfriend to turn it off, I found it so disturbing.

His reasoning is that he understands what's taking place on the screen is completely fictitious, so it doesn't bother him to watch. For my mind the images disturb me whether they are real or not.
