The wii has a bit of a problem going back and forth between gamecube discs and wii discs. After about 8 months we started getting disc read errors when we tried to play wii games. It wasn't really a big problem we always were able to get the machine to recognize the disc... eventually, but this could take up to 3 or 4 tries.
As the wii was still under warranty, we were able to contact nintendo, and have the offending part (i'm not entirely sure what part) replaced with a new one. Nintendo renewed our warranty for another 12 months, and we got the wii back in less than a week. On the whole I give Nintendo high marks for dealing with this problem. If your experiencing a similar error with your wii go to the nintendo wii tech support page to begin troubleshooting your problem. Hurry before your warranty runs out.
