wii fit

I'm very glad my wii got back in time for me to receive my wii fit. yes i'm a dork who preordered on amazon as soon as i heard it was being released in the US. I've been waiting months for this technology to be available here.

Thus far the wii fit has not dissappointed. Similarly to wii sports the user can import their mii, and work on their mii's wii fit age. The unit takes into account your weight, and height to calculate your bmi and also your date of birth, and a simple balance test to begin with.

The only thing I'm nervous about for this particular toy is when the machine calculates your bmi, it clearly tells you if you're underweight, normal, overweight, or obese. I think for a generally overweight population this may be a turn off for some people off the bat. That's the only negative I have to report though. Once the wii fit calculates your bmi and ability to balance between your left and right side it allows you to set a goal for yourself to gain or lose weight over a period of time. The system rewards you for exercising by opening up more content and activities as you play each minigame. The system even allows you to record exercise you've done outside of the game. The first time I can ever recall that a video game system gives you a reason to go outside and play.

There are four different categories you can work in: Strength Training, Aerobics, Yoga and Balance Games.

I haven't gotten through all the content yet, but I started with aerobics, and hoola hooping. The game gives you 3 minutes to hoola and keep the hoop up it measures the number of times the hoop goes around your waist. to make things interesting the npc's throw additional hoops that you have to lean for and catch. The game works the pelvic girdle, loosening the sacrum, and lumbar vertebrae, which often become fused after many years of too much sitting.

Then I was onto the step aerobics. this was a little tougher. It took me a little while to get the hang of it. The best way to get through this game is too watch the other miis the diagram with feet was far less intuitive, and made it tough to follow where my feet were supposed to be.

The running was pretty fun. I think I'd rather be outside running, but at least I could stop after three minutes, and rest. I have often been heard saying "I hate running" recently so we found this particular game to be extra amusing. At the end of the race I was sprinting down a hill, and started to run as fast as I could. The game through me on my face and said I lost my balance "try to keep a steady pace". After completing the short distance jog. I was able to do two player run. This was an absolute kick. My boyfriend who is considerably faster than I am was litterally running circles around me in the living room. Following that race the wii fit opens up the long distance jog, which I wasn't in the mood for, so I switched to the yoga.

The yoga was by far the hardest activity thus far. In order to show you where your center of balance should be the game uses a little yellow circle that you have to keep a red dot in. After you complete the game it shows you how much the red dot moved while you were in a particular pose. Let's just say I need to work on my half moon pose.

Overall i give the system an A+ for inginuity! O can't wait to go home and play more.
