Blizzard + Activision = <3

Just saw on Digg that Blizzard (aka Vivendi Entertainment) and Activision are merging - $18 billion worth of merging happiness. Wow, and I don't mean World of Warcraft wow. This is big.

Where will they take their enterprise? Its hard to say. With the console wars getting heated between Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo (who may possibly be partnering with Sega), a Blizzard / Activision duo will make for a powerful entity in the gaming creative arena. The strength of World of Warcraft online (which I still need to play thanks to a free trial from my co-worker Rae) may convert even more video game activists to the PC gaming realm.

Informed Gamers will remember that Activision also bought Bizarre Creations not too long ago. I wonder what Bungie and Bioware are thinking of this news?

As with most mergers, the question of "who's buying who" always comes up. Frankly, I have no idea in this case. As far as I know, both companies are behemoths, so it may come down to who's name they keep. If I were them, I'd use Activision. Nice name, great brand.

Actually after Blizzard bought activision their stocks dropped a little, because they are that much larger than activision. But I look forward to seeing the creations of this merger.

Actually, Vivendi owns Blizzard and was the company making the acquisition.

This now makes Vivendi the second largest game publisher behind Electronic Arts known as EA.

Yeah, WoW bought Guitar Hero. Who knew?
