Halo 3 has finally hit the market and it has met the sky high expectations and then some. The campaign mode is solid if a little on the short side clocking in at around 7-8 hours, and the multiplayer action is some of the best online play for any game on any system.
Campaign mode is filled with epic battles through many diverse locations. You battle your way through everything from a tropical jungle to a snowy mountain top. I had a blast playing through the campaign with a few of my friends over xbox live. All of the levels are tight and action packed. The story is intriguing but I was a little bit lost because the events of the first two games were somewhat hazy in my mind. All in all, this was a great way to wrap up a fantastic series.
Multiplayer is the meat of the Halo experience. The multiplayer is what keeps fans coming back. The number of game modes rivals anything else on the market today. You have capture the flag, slayer, team slayer, oddball, assault, juggernaut and plenty of other variations of these games. You also have a slew of new vehicles along with past favorites that add a whole new level of strategy to the game. You also have a handful of new weapons (gravity hammer, spartan laser, etc.) and a bunch of new equipment (bubble shield, trip mines etc.)
This time around Bungie has integrated a feature allowing you to record your multiplayer matches and watch them from any angle anywhere on the map. Not sure where that sniper shot came from, after the match just watch the replay and follow the bullet. You can take your favorite clips and share them online with other fellow gamers.
The forge map editor is the other new huge addition to the Halo experience. The forge editor allows you two edit current maps and customize them to your liking. Add whatever weapons, vehicles, equipment you feel necessary. You can also swap around spawn point and flag locations. Forge is the kind of thing you have to experiment with yourself to really get the full effect.
All in all, Halo 3 is an epic experience and one of the best games ever. But alas, nothing is perfect. I do have a few minor gripes about the game. First of all, although the graphics are solid, I feel that they could have been better. Maybe I have been spoiled by the console pushing graphics of Gears of War, but if Halo 3 implemented graphics of that caliber then this game would have been just about flawless. Also the main campaign could have been longer, at around seven hour I easily beat the game in a few days without much trouble.
So yeah Halo 3 is a prime example of why I love gaming so much in the first place. Games like this are the reason why the industry has come so far over the years. If you own a 360 then you owe it to yourself to get this game.
