Kingdom of Loathing

If you're looking for a 20 minute distraction in your daily routine check out Kingdom of Loathing. It's a turn based game entirely free to the public. The guy who wrote it strikes me as a literary genius. One step into the palindome and you'll know why, "No sir away a papaya war is on". The game gives a limited number of turns per day, and the currency is measured in meat. KOL is very funny if you like games it's worth checking out.

This is one of those games, like any MMO really, where the spoilers are the difference between playing it and not.

The KoL wiki is the basic instruction guide to KoL. The game is free and your character will be deleted after 3 months of inactivity. This danger can be bought away for a mere $10 "donation" to the good ole boys over at Asymmetric. They also sell some decent shwag but I warn that the lil stands the figurines come with are easily broken and destroyed merely by touch. Figurines, good; stands, bad. My buddies also bought some pint glasses and shirts that I thought were worthy of ownership.

This game is tons of fun, but even more fun when more than 1 of you is playing it. After a couple ascensions (when you beat the game you "ascend" to heaven....where you can then go back down for another round where the game changes a little bit) the game really lost some draw, but they've recently added more material and I haven't really played it much since then other than to keep my free character activated !

It is pretty cool, the characters are good and the drawings are great, and I'm impressed with how "low-fi" it is.
