Buying a Wii

If you've been seduced by the slim and sexy wii here are a few tips for picking one up.

You can purchase on the internet but but you're going to pay about $90 more than you would in the store. Places like BestBuy.com do not even offer them for sale over the internet you have to go to the store. Amazon.com sells them but the cheapest one new is $342.99 compare to $250 in the stores.

So if you want a wii, and want to take advantage of the affordable pricing in stores here's what you need to know.

Nintendo is pumping out wiis as fast as they can. The Nintendo store in Times Square sells out every day because only so many can be manufactured at a time. Every supplier receives a certain number from the distributor, usually on a daily basis. Find out who in your area sells them, when I say area I mean where are you on a daily basis at noon, because when they land people leave work to pick them up. Best Buy sells them, but if you've ever tried to call a Best Buy you know you'd have better luck trying to contact NASA then an employee there. I recommend looking for EB (elctronics boutique) or a Game Spot nearby.

Call around 11:30 am find out if they expect a delivery and at what time. Call back at whatever time they tell you, if they say they got them in drop what you're doing and go directly to the store. They will not hold them or put them on layaway for you because they sell so fast.

Once you have your wii you're ready to roll. The system comes with one controller and nun-chuck and also wii sports. You can play multiplayer games with one wii mote but it's a pain in the butt. you can not play boxing, tennis, or baseball with one wii mote you need additional ones.

The wii mote costs $40 by itself, and the nun-chuck is $20. Rayman is the only game I know of that more than 2 players use the nun-chuck, but it's turn based, so you can share. You need two nun-chucks to play the boxing game. You can pick up a copy of wii Play for $50 and that comes with a controller (so you're basically playing $10 for a game, which is a bargain)

Here's the total cost break down for a system with 4 controllers 2 nun chucks and wii play.

Wii w/1 controller + 1 nun-chuck + wii Sports = $250

Wii Play comes w/ 1 controller = $50

2 controllers = $80

1 nunchuck = $20------------------------- Total $400 for everything you need to be playing with the max # of players for each game.

Pretty good deal considering if you buy on the internet you're looking at a minimum of $360 for just the system and the one controller.

Also if you have a wireless router you're all set to take your wii on the web it costs $5 to download Opera for the system, and then you have total web browsing capabilities. The weather channel uses a NASA image of the globe. It's really cool, you can get the weather in any major city in the world from Sydney Austrailia, to Nairobe Kenya.

With add ons like the Wii Fit pad this system is fast transforming into something more than a game system. If you're an on the go person and don't have time to make it to that step aerobics class not to worry the wii is there for you. I also love it for evening of entertaining, there's nothing like inviting your friends to go bowling in your living room

That is so true about Best Buy - I've NEVER been able to contact anyone there by calling them. Why do they bother having phones?
